Begin small and go slow
Aria first began meditating and struggled to silence her thoughts. She says, “I could hardly sit still for two minutes at first.” But I came to see that beginning small is reasonable. She now advises novices begin with just five minutes of conscious breathing.
Sit comfortably, close your eyes, then pay attentive attention to your breathing. Breathe deeply through your nose then gently out through your mouth. “Even a few deep breaths can make a major difference,” Aria notes.
Design a calm space
For Aria, the appropriate surroundings are crucial. She says, “you don’t need a fancy meditation room.” “Just locate a peaceful area where you feel comfortable.”
To aid with her relaxation, she likes to turn down the lights and burn a fragrant candle. Establishing a calm environment tells your body and mind it is time to relax.
Welcome guided meditations
Aria advises trying guided meditations if sitting in solitude seems intolerable. “There are so many fantastic apps and YouTube channels available today,” she notes. “Guided meditations assist in concentration and reduction of distraction.”
Especially if you are new to meditation, listening to a calming voice can help direct your thoughts and make the practice more approachable.
Develop Thankfulness
Aria usually finishes her meditating sessions with thanks. “I stop to consider what I am grateful for,” she says. “This is a quick approach to improve my attitude and wrap up the practice in a good way.”
Aria wants to demonstrate using these ideas that meditation need not be difficult. “The aim is not to empty your mind,” she says. “It’s about discovering a moment of stillness and relating with yourself.”
