Advice from Daisy Black for a Holiday Feast Promoting Heart Health

Though Daisy Black loves holidays, as a cardiac nurse she understands the need of making heart-healthy decisions—even at celebratory feasts.

“The holidays can be indulgent, but little changes add a lot,” Daisy notes. Her first piece of advice is Beginning with the appetisers, “Try a yogurt-based dip or a veggie platter including guacamole instead of strong cheese platters.”

Daisy replaces roasted sweet potatoes for conventional butter-laden mashed potatoes in the main meal. She says, “They’re naturally sweet, packed with fiber, and so colorful!”

Regarding proteins, Daisy prefers fish with herb-crust. “It looks great on the table and is heavy in omega-3s,” she says.

Daisy finds creative expression in desserts. “I love creating a fruit salad including pomegranate seeds, orange slices, and a sprinkling of cinnamon,” she explains. “It’s festive, energising, and doesn’t leave you feeling heavy.”

Her last advise: See how much each item weighs. “Enjoy the foods you love, but listen to your body,” Daisy counsels. “Everything is about balance and celebrating in a way that feels good—inside and out.”
