Sophie’s No-Added Sugar Tips for Clean-Eating Beginners

Sophie was shocked to see so many goods included hidden sugars when she chose to reduce extra sugar from her diet. Driven to change, she created basic clean eating techniques even for novices to follow.

Start by reading labels, Sophie counsels. “Sugar goes under several names, including corn syrup, maltose, and cane juice.”

Sophie substitutes overnight oats for sweet cereals at breakfast. “I stir cinnamon, chia seeds, oats with almond milk. Then in the morning for natural sweetness, I toss fresh fruit like banana slices or berries.

Her lunches can feature a large salad topped with homemade dressings. “Store-bought dressings abound in added sugars,” she notes. Olive oil, balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard, and a little dried herbs make up Sophie’s usual dressing.

Regarding snacks, Sophie bases them on whole foods. “I love apple slices accompanied by a handful of nuts or almond butter,” she says. She creates her own energy balls using dates, almonds, and unsweetened cocoa powder as well. “Like having a dessert without the guilt!”

Rather than sweet sauces, Sophie loves stir-fries made with fresh vegetables, lean protein, and a hint of coconut aminos for dinner. She says, “It’s quick, easy, and so flavorful.”

Her largest advice is Try to be patient with yourself. “Your taste buds will adjust even though cutting added sugar can be difficult.” she explains. “You’ll feel the difference in no time; focus on whole, natural ingredients.”
