For mother of two and fitness coach Isla Rivers, the Mediterranean diet is a lifestyle rather than only a means of weight loss.
Acclaimed for emphasizing fresh, nutritious foods including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats, the Mediterranean diet has helped Isla balance a hectic schedule and accomplish steady weight loss.
“I wanted something flexible, not restricting,” Isla says. “A breath of fresh air, the Mediterranean diet seems. It’s about loading your plate with quality rather than excluding everything.”
Breakfast of choice for her is Greek yogurt topped with fresh berries and a scattering of almonds and drizzled with honey. “It keeps me full until lunch, is quick and satisfying,” she says. She chooses a bright salad with mixed greens, chickpeas, cucumbers, tomatoes, and a slosh of olive oil and lemon for lunch.
Dinner is a family gathering. “We love roasted vegetables with grilled fish,” Isla says. “The youngsters like it too; it’s simple, delicious.”
Isla uses a handful of nuts or hummus with carrot sticks to curb appetites. One also depends much on hydration. “I enjoy herbal teas throughout the day and sip lots of water,” she says.
Isla underlines that the Mediterranean diet is based on balance. “This is a technique to fuel your body; it is not a fast cure. My clothing fit better, I feel more energised and stronger. And I don’t feel starved either.”
