Brielle’s Gluten-Free Recipes for Healthy Aging

As Brielle made a batch of her beloved gluten-free muffins, she told me, “When I started focusing on healthy aging, I realized just how important it is to listen to my body.”

She started looking for gluten-free substitutes that would support her health and still taste great since she realized with age that wheat-based items did not always sit well with her.

Combining nutrient-dense, gluten-free grains like quinoa, buckwheat, and millet becomes Brielle’s foundation. She makes casseroles and breakfast bowls among other things using these. She said, “These grains are packed with vitamins, minerals, and fibre which helps keep my digestion on track as I get older.”

Comforting quinoa soup with lots of vegetables—think of carrots, celery, and spinach cooked in a rich broth—is one of her go-to dishes. She might include lentils or beans for additional protein.

This style of cuisine gently on the stomach yet warms you from the inside out. Brielle said, ladling it into a vibrant ceramic bowl, “A bowl of this can make my day.”

Using almond and coconut flours, Brielle enjoys baking to satisfy her sweet taste. Using ripe bananas or applesauce for natural sweetener, she whips muffins.

She then sprinkles nutmeg or cinnamon for a pleasant warming. “I always keep a batch ready to go when I’m craving something sweet,” she laughed confideingly.

Brielle also suggests including anti-aging fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants. Often on her plate are blueberries, tomatoes, and leafy greens. She stated, pointing out that flaxseeds are high in good omega-3 fats, “I swear by a morning smoothie packed with spinach, berries, and a spoonful of flaxseeds.”

Brielle emphasizes at last the need of being active and hydrated. She coordinates her gluten-free meals with lots of water, herbal teas, and quick workouts.

“Your digestion and general health will benefit much from even a brief walk following lunch,” she said. Through careful listening to her body and trying with several gluten-free foods, Brielle demonstrates how vivid and delicious a journey good aging can be.
