Nina Grant realised she had to modify her diet after she received a high cholesterol diagnosis. Nina says, “It felt overwhelming first.” But it became second nature after I began emphasising nutritious foods and good fats.
She is now providing low-cholesterol meal ideas to enable others to take charge of their medical conditions.
Breakfast: Oatmeal with a Twist
Beginning your day with a bowl of heart-healthy muesli will help you Nina sprinkles chia seeds, a handful of fresh berries and drizzles honey. She says, “It’s filling, wonderful, and high in fibre to help lower cholesterol.” For an antioxidant boost, team it with a cup of green tea.
Lunch: Veggie-Packed Quinoa Salad
Nina likes a colourful quinoa salad for lunch. Combine sliced cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, spinach, lemon’s juice, cooked quinoa. For crunch and a dose of omega-3s, toss a handful walnuts. “This salad sustains my energy all afternoon,” she says.
Snack: Hummus and Veggie Sticks
“Snacking smart is absolutely vital,” Nina says. She advised combining hummus with bell peppers, celery, and carrots—hardy vegetables. This snack is heart-friendly and filling thanks in part to the veggies’ fibre and the good fats in the hummus.
Dinner: Grilled Salmon and Steamed Veggies
Nina usually eats a basic but really delicious dinner. She grills a salmon fillet to perfection, season it with garlic and herbs, then present it with steamed broccoli and sweet potatoes. “Salmon is heavy in omega-3 fatty acids, which help lower cholesterol and inflammation,” she says.
Dessert is dark chocolate with almonds.
“Yes, a low-cholesterol diet allows you to have dessert!” Nina chuckle. She likes a square of dark chocolate beside some almonds. “It’s all about equilibrium.”
Following Nina’s meal plan can help you to lower your cholesterol and yet enjoy great cuisine. “Healthy eating can be a celebration of good food and better health,” she says, “not boring.”
