Daphne Hart wasn’t sure how her children would respond when she chose to change her family to a paleo way of life. “It felt overwhelming first,” Daphne says.
“Finding meals that were kid-approved, tasty, and healthful worried me. But once we got going, it became an interesting gastronomic journey.
Daphne started her path when she started feeling tired and had stomach problems. Following advice from a nutritionist, she discovered the paleo diet, a full, unprocessed food-based approach modeled by our hunter-gatherer forebears. Daphne agreed to try it, and shortly her whole family was involved.
Here are some of Daphne’s best dishes, which have became second nature in her house:
1. Sweet Potato Breakfast Hash
“This dish saves busy mornings,” Daphne says. Cube sweet potatoes, sautéed with bell peppers, onion, and spinach, top with sunny-side-up eggs. The end effect is a filling, nutrient-dense meal that even finicky eaters enjoy.
2. Herb-Crusted Chicken Tenders
Daphne chuckles as her children used to ask for fast restaurant chicken tenders. “They now want my homemade variation. Bake till golden after coating chicken strips in almond flour, herbs, and a little garlic powder. Present alongside homemade honey mustard on a side tray.
3. Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies
Daphne’s paleo-friendly cookies are her covert weapon for quelling sweet cravings. “These are a hit using almond flour and coconut sugar,” she explains. You wouldn’t even be aware they are paleo!
Advice from Daphne for households contemplating the paleo diet? Beginning small is a good idea. She advises “introduce one new meal a week and get everyone involved in the kitchen”. “The children are more likely to try new things when they help to cook.”
