Grace West promised heart health not only for her but for her whole family following the heart attack of her father. She offers her best advice today on how to keep your heart strong and lead a dynamic existence.
Grace says, “Heart health starts with little changes.” “It’s about developing behaviours you can maintain.”
1. Choose Healthy Fats
Grace advises substituting heart-healthy foods include avocados, almonds, and olive oil for saturated fats. “I almost always drizzle olive oil on almost everything,” she says “This is a basic approach to improve your meals.”
She also substitutes avocado for butter on toast and choose fatty foods like salmon. “Your heart’s friend is omega-3s,” she says.
2. Move Daily
Grace jokes, “You don’t have to run marathons.” She stresses the need of regular movement—walking, dancing, yoga among other forms. Her family enjoys evening walks taken together.
3. Limit Sodium
“Salt is sneaky,” Grace cautions. She counsels making meals at home where you can adjust the season. Her preferred trick is Flavouring with herbs and spices including parsley, paprika, and garlic.
4. Load Up on Veggies
Grace usually loads her plate half full with vibrant vegetables. She enjoys roasting carrots and broccoli topped with nutritional yeast. “It tastes cheesy but, in fact, it’s healthy,” she says.
5. Know Your Numbers
One must always have regular visits. Grace promotes monitoring blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol as well as medications. “In terms of your health, knowledge is power.” She explains.
Grace is inspirational in her commitment to heart health. “It’s not only about adding years to your life,” she notes. “It’s about giving your years vitality.”.
