Melody Quinn avoided starting a long-term diet change when she discovered she was always lethargic and bloated. Rather, she set a modest goal for herself: one week of vegan food concentrated just on gut health.

She concentrated on healing whole foods—plant-based meals meant to relax her digestive tract instead of aggravating it. Her meals resembled steel-cut oats with flax and berries, warm and high in fibers. Midday meals based on fermented foods included tempeh-stuffed wraps with sauerkraut or miso soup with soba noodles. Usually featuring roasted root vegetables, lentils, and a little bit of ginger or turmeric, dinners were grounded and mild.
It was about awareness not about macros or calorie tracking. “I found that everything else started to fit when I slowed down and choose foods that supported my gut,” she explains.
Melody sensed the change simply a few days later. less flatulence. a simpler, more consistent energy source. clearer skin. Most remarkably, though, a better mood. “I didn’t expect that part,” she says. But I felt emotionally lighter also.
She was seeking for means to carry the emotion forward by the end of the week, not for a cheat day. “Now, even if I don’s eat like that every day, I know how to return to balance when I need it.”
