Evadne Kerr used to view weekends as her “cheat days.” After a long week of clean eating and disciplined lunches at her desk, Saturday and Sunday were wide open for indulgence—pancakes, takeout, and rich desserts that left her both satisfied and sluggish.
But when her doctor warned that her cholesterol was creeping up, everything changed. “I didn’t want to give up the joy of weekend cooking,” she says. “So I decided to reinvent it.”
Rather than see heart-healthy eating as restrictive, Evadne treated it as an opportunity to explore. She began experimenting in the kitchen with ingredients that supported her cardiovascular health—olive oil, fatty fish, oats, legumes, and vibrant vegetables.
She discovered that roasted salmon with citrus felt just as indulgent as fried chicken, and a warm quinoa salad with herbs and nuts could rival any comfort food she once craved.
“Flavor doesn’t come from butter or salt alone,” she explains. “It comes from layering—fresh garlic, lemon zest, a splash of vinegar, a good olive oil.”
Over time, her weekends transformed from an excuse to escape healthy eating into a celebration of it. Cooking became a ritual—not just for herself, but for the people she loved. And her health markers? “Improved across the board,” she says proudly.
For Evadne, heart-healthy meals aren’t about sacrifice. They’re about savoring every bite—with intention.
