Sancia Liddell always thought she was doing everything right. Her meals were plant-based, colorful, and homemade. But behind the scenes, her digestion told a different story—bloating, fatigue, and unpredictable gut discomfort that seemed to have no pattern.
“I was eating clean, but I wasn’t eating smart for my gut,” she says.
She started studying the link between gut health and plant-based eating, and quickly realized she was overloading on raw veggies and processed vegan snacks, while underestimating the power of fermented foods, fiber balance, and variety.
So she changed the way she grocery shopped.
Sancia now focuses on simplicity: fewer trendy products, more functional ingredients. She fills her cart with whole grains like quinoa and oats, fermented staples like tempeh and kimchi, and fiber-rich vegetables she can cook gently. She also began rotating foods week by week to keep her microbiome diverse and active.
“The key was being intentional,” she shares. “Not just vegan for the sake of the label, but vegan for the sake of my gut.”
Today, her digestion feels calmer, her energy is steadier, and her food choices feel aligned with how she wants to live. “Shopping is simpler now,” she smiles. “And my gut is finally, finally happy.”
