Iris Fox’s Weekly Clean Eating Strategy for Beginners

Iris Fox rolled her eyes the first she heard the term “clean eating.” She notes, “I thought it was just another trend.” She decided it wouldn’t hurt to try, though, after months of feeling tired, bloated, and foggy. “I didn’t want a total make-over,” she says. I simply needed to feel human once more.

Not overnight but week by week, what started as a reluctant experiment evolved into a daily ritual that changed her life.

Iris advises that the secret is to plan without excessive overreach. She neither counted macros nor spent hours meal prepping. She began instead with one question every week: What would make Friday better? From there, she drew a loose sketch for meals that felt flexible, nourishing, and most importantly doable.

She made little changes instead of emptying her pantry in its whole. She had oats with fruit instead of sugary cereal. Rather than missing lunch, she packed leftovers. Her dinners consisted in roasted vegetables, protein, whole grains. Usually, snacks were hummus with vegetables or nuts or fruit.

“It was not about eliminating everything,” Iris notes. “It was about frequently deciding what felt good.”

She also cleared room for flaws. She had pizza on Wednesday without thinking twice—if she wanted it. It was okay too if her week became hectic and she turned to store-bought meals. Not purity; the aim was advancement.

Iris changed with time. Less migraines, improved sleep, better complexion. More importantly, though, she sensed food ceased to be the enemy. “I was not fighting with myself every meal,” she says. “I sensed natural rhythm and had one.”

She now tells others who find diet culture overwhelming her basic approach. “You neither need a detox nor a blueprint,” Iris advises. “You simply need a strategy fit for your life—and permission to take it one week at a time.”
